Unpublished and unique, and of great interest
Lot 519
ASIA MINOR. Uncertain. Augustus, with Tiberius, 27 BC-AD 14. Hemiassarion (?) (Bronze, 17 mm, 4.81 g, 1 h), after 4 BC. [KAIΣAPOΣ?] ΣEBAΣTOY Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. TIBEP[IOΣ?] KAIΣAP Bare head of Tiberius to right. RPC I -. RPC Suppl. 1-5 -. Unpublished and unique. A very interesting dynastic issue with a beautiful near black patina and two wonderful portraits. Nearly extremely fine.

Exactly where this coin was struck is unclear as it only bears the names and portraits of Augustus and his heir Tiberius. It is somewhat reminiscent of RPC I 1565 from Thessalonika, but of smaller size and vastly different style and probably originates, as this cataloguer suspects, from a mint in western Asia Minor
